Description: This is a vector file that represents the Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ) surrounding the Emmett Ginna Nuclear Power Plant located in Wayne County, New York. Commonly known as Ginna, the nuclear power plant is located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario in the Town of Ontario, Wayne County, New York, approximately 20 miles (32 km) east of the City of Rochester in Monroe County, New York. The EPZ is the area surrounding the nuclear power plant for which planning has been done to ensure prompt and effective actions can be taken to protect the public in the event of a radiological incident. A buffer approximately ten (10) miles around the site is called the plume emergency planning zone, and a buffer approximately fifty (50) miles around the site is called the ingestion emergency planning zone.This layer is often used in conjunction with other layers related to Ginna to assist in emergency preparedness, monitoring, and action plans.

Copyright Text: This layer was created collectively by the Constellation Energy Group, Monroe County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), Office of Public Health Preparedness (OPHP), and the Department of Environmental Services (DES). This layer was originally created in GIS in 2005 by DES where a 2, 5, 10, and 50-foot buffer were created around the existing Ginna Power Plant point. The buffer distances are based on data gathered by the Constellation Energy Group and OEM (2005, Monroe County Department of Environmental Services, Rochester, NY).
