Description: This is a vector file that represents the locations of rain gauges within Monroe County, New York. A rain gauge is an instrument used to gather and measure the amount of liquid precipitation over a set period of time. These instruments have been strategically placed around Monroe County to measure the rate and the total precipitation in a given area. They are used to monitor and prepare for storm events, by setting up storm crews or collection systems for the excess flows. Rain gauges are also used to document storm events in the area.

This layer was originally created in GIS in 2005 during a digital conversion project where original Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings and as-built drawings were scanned, digitized, and combined with data gathered from field work (2005, Monroe County Department of Environmental Services, Rochester, NY).
